In the early 1960's, the L & S Extension Club decided to do something entertaining for the older citizens of the community. So they arranged to have a monthly social meeting in the club room of the courthouse. The attendance and interest grew in the project so the Better Leola Club started planning to finance and house the growing senior organization. The Senior Citizen Club organized on July 20, 1976. For entertainment they played Bingo, did crafts and had a choir. The seniors still play Bingo, but no longer do crafts or have a choir. A nurse comes from Ipswich, SD once a month, to do blood pressure checks. Every Tuesday and Thursday they have lunch at the Ten-45 Cafe and once a month they have lunch at the school.
