The desire to have a library in Leola, was much in the minds of several people as early as 1901, according to news stories reported in early newspapers. Books were donated, read and reread until the 1920's when a group of local ladies formed a Civic League. The project was to improve the library by purchasing and renting books from a rental library. In the 1930's and 1940's, amateur shows were held each summer with each organization providing one or more acts. All of the 'dedicated' musicians and actors, men and women willingly contributed their time to make these programs the entertainment treat of the year. This was the main source of income for the library. The library has been housed in various locations, in December of 1978 the library moved to its current location. Besides books the current library has magazines, videos, audio books and high-speed internet service available to the public. New books are always being added. Best sellers are mostly up to date.
Library cards may be purchased at the Leola Public Library $5.00.
